SUMMARY: Steve Gerhartz (b. 1971) is currently residing in West Bend, Wisconsin. He has been painting en plein air for thirty years. The Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, Connecticut, is where he received his formal training in landscape, portrait, figurative painting, and sculpture. In 1992, Gerhartz was the recipient of the Stobart Outdoor Painting Fellowship. After attending the Lyme Academy of Fine Art, Steve moved back to Wisconsin to begin a full-time career as an artist. “Painting outside on my own as a professional artist has been a great experience, I am constantly learning from nature and understanding what happens in certain lighting conditions. I paint on location in all sizes; even very large paintings are started outside. There is nothing quite as emotional for me as working on a large painting outdoors, trying to capture all that form and space into a painting.” Steve works on landscapes, still-lifes, and portraits for gallery shows in a number of midwestern galleries.
